Who'd have ever thought Marc would have signed to a major label again?? I wonder if Tris Penna is still there and he is a part of this?? At least we know that the collection will be done properly, and promoted properly. Maybe Marc may get some sort of BRITS recognition with EMI backing??

I’m getting confused. Are we thinking that Marc has signed to EMI in the old fashioned sense of the word? ( as in that he’s left Cherry Red?). I say this as I’ve noticed that lots of artists seem to be with one label and release some sort of compilation or re-issued expanded version with another label purely for that re issue but still stick with their record label in the conventional sense for future recordings and work.

For example, my new reissued, expanded Pete Murphy cd , from years and years ago has been released on Cherry Red and Pete isn’t with them, he’s with Nettwork and when he did the original album, he was with Beggar’s Banquet. Cherry Red wrote to BB for permission etc but why didn’t his current label or BB do the reissued, expanded version? Similarly, CR are doing this with PWEI's reissued, expanded versions even though they're now with Cooking Vinyl and were with Sony Music and Infectious etc, previously.

I suppose the music business has changed and we don’t know all the ins and outs but it may be that EMI are just doing this one album for whatever reason?

Which leads me to my next thread…. Opportunity for everyone to have their say…..!!!! Please see “Cherry Red Wants You…” :)

My inclination is that it's one-off deal for the compilation. Alison Moyet did that with Sony a couple of years ago for her Best of (Revisited) album. That tied in with a major tour and promotion including tv (altho she does tend to get tv whenever she has a new album).

Another thought, regarding reissues, Marc may be restricted by EMI in releasing anything else this year in order to focus on the compilation.

I have to say, I do like the title Pop Troubadour!

The artwork would fit a Marc Almond record as well...
